Over the past year our district has been working to assist Afghan refugees in Sacramento who have fled from the Taliban by helping them with acclimating to a new culture, and connecting them with social services. Our hopes are to use our experience with Afghan refugees to focus efforts on Ukrainian refugees fleeing the Russian Invasion.
These successes would not have been possible without our partnerships with the International Rescue Committee and Assemblyman Ken Cooley. Both have assisted in creating a community garden, leading to a farmers market, and plans to build a new community center.
